Mortgages for Solicitors

Solicitors' mortgages

Getting a high-value mortgage as a solicitor can be challenging, and you may have to look beyond the high street lenders to find the best mortgages for solicitors.

Due to the nature of the legal profession, standard mortgage assessments may not reflect your true earnings as a solicitor. For example, a regular high street mortgage lender may not consider overtime, bonuses, or additional freelance billable hours.

A mortgage provider that specializes in mortgages for solicitors understands the nature of the profession and will assess affordability based on the legal profession's income structure.

Solicitors' benefits from specialist mortgages

The following features and benefits can be found in a good quality mortgage for solicitors:

  • Rates tailored to your professional earning capacity.

  • If you are over 21 and a fully qualified solicitor, some mortgage providers will offer mortgages at up to 90% loan to value (LTV).

  • Affordability calculations based on expected high income.

  • There are special deals available for people working in the Magic Circle who are not British citizens, such as Americans moving to London.

  • Solicitors with irregular but high incomes may benefit from flexible repayment conditions.

  • In some cases, solicitors may be able to use their savings to offset their mortgage, reducing their monthly payments.

  • While you may not yet be fully qualified, trainee solicitors may still be able to get guarantor mortgages.
