Representative example based on a fixed rate mortgage

A mortgage of £375,000 payable over 20 years initially on a fixed rate for 5 years at 4.38% and then at the standard variable rate of 7.65% for the remaining 15 years would require 60 monthly payments of £2,351.88 and then 180 monthly payments of £2,899.55.

The total amount payable would be £663,156.80 which includes interest and product fees of £1,124.

The overall cost for comparison is 6.5% APRC representative.

Early repayment charges may apply.

Mortgages for Lawyers

Lawyers can sometimes have difficulty getting a high-value mortgage that reflects their earnings despite their professional status and above-average income.

Some high street mortgage lenders do not properly account for overtime, bonuses, or additional billable hours undertaken by lawyers when assessing their income. If you approach mortgage lenders specialising in mortgages for lawyers, you're more likely to receive an affordability assessment that considers the fee structure of the legal profession.

A lawyer already has enough on his or her plate without trying to find a good mortgage deal on top of everything else.

Fortunately, our independent whole-of-market mortgage advisers can help lawyers find the best mortgage.

Lawyers' benefits from specialist mortgages

You may be able to benefit from a good quality mortgage for lawyers in the following ways:

  • Preferential mortgage deals that reflect your true earning capacity

  • Based on realistic expected income, affordability calculations are tailored to lawyers' needs

  • Deals for people working in the Magic Circle who are not from the UK, such as American lawyers moving to the UK

  • Your mortgage can be offset against your savings if you have flexible repayment conditions
